Oral Appliance Therapy for Snoring & Sleep Apnea
Oral Appliance Therapy for Snoring & Sleep Apnea
Technology:
Advances in oral appliance design and associated technology has steadily progressed over the past 20 years. Dr. Rogers and Mary Beth Rogers were there from the early going and are well versed in the state-of-the-art. The appliances and screening/titration monitors in use at Pittsburgh Dental Sleep Medicine represent those that have been well researched and documented to produce positive results for our patients.
Oral Appliances:
Unlike most offices that use a single appliance, Dr. Rogers uses several different oral appliances, choosing the one that is best for you. The choice of oral appliance is made after a through medical history and oral examination. While he most often uses the TAP appliance but are quite familiar with many other appliances if and when they may be indicated. The TAP appliance is one of the leading appliances in use today backed by scientific research. It is comfortable to use, easy to adjust and very effective for treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.
Screeners / Titration Devices:
The Remmers Sleep Recorder (RSR) is routinely utilized to monitor the effectiveness of the jaw position during trial procedures of the oral appliance. The RSR measures snoring, breathing, blood oxygen, heart rate, pulse, tooth grinding, body position and leg movements. Use of this device allows us to accurately set the oral appliance to the proper therapeutic jaw position prior the final assessment in the sleep lab.
Pittsburgh Dental Sleep Medicine is unlike any other dental practice in the area since it focuses on sleep disordered breathing and nothing else. Dr. Rogers limits his practice to "dental sleep medicine" which treats a medical problem that has serious medical side effects if left untreated or is improperly managed.
Snoring & Obstructive Sleep Apnea:
Snoring and obstructive sleep apneas have been linked to increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, automobile accidents and injury in the workplace. And this is in addition to the quality of life issues such as bed-partner annoyance and excessive daytime sleepiness.
Dr. Rogers is uniquely qualified to manage this serious malady. He has been actively treating patients in the tri-state area since 1991 upon referral from sleep centers, sleep physicians and concerned dentists. As a pioneer in the field of dental sleep medicine, Dr. Rogers was instrumental in creating the original medical and dental protocols that render positive outcomes to his patients today. He is familiar with all the oral appliances and associated technology presently in use and maintains close working relationships with area sleep physicians so as to maximize positive results over the long-term.
Mary Beth Rogers oversees the day to day activities of the practice. Her special talents are based on over 12 years of experience in managing and consulting in the arena of dental sleep medicine.
