Owned and operated by the University of Pittsburgh, the Allegheny Observatory is a private research center available to the public only through specially-arranged tours. The Observatory is one of the world's major astronomical institutions, utilizing three enormously powerful telescopes to search the sky for elusive solar bodies. It's located in Pittsburgh's Riverview Park, four miles north of the Golden Triangle. Tours include a walk through the building, an informative film screening, and a look through the Observatory's 13-foot Fitz-Clark telescope.
