Description:

First known as the Stanley Theater, the theater that is now the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts is one of the city's major performing arts venues, featuring those of area companies including tje Pittsburgh Opera, the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Built in 1927, the theater maintains its original glorious appearance, from the 18-foot-tall mirrors set on the landings of the Grand Lobby staircases to the 4,700 pounds chandelier that illuminates the room. Today, the downtown theater is as active as ever, and its location near many fantastic restaurants makes for an easy, romantic night out on the town.
