Built and maintained as a private club for over 80 years, Alcoma Golf Club is now open to public use but still has the superior course conditions and amenities that helped it survive as a private institution for decades. The 18 holes feature 6,623 yards of play, with sand bunkers surrounding most of the greens and collecting many straying shots. The large deciduous trees that line the fairways complicate the game farther: often catching and deflecting balls if they are not closely in line with the course. Set on the far eastern reaches of the metro area, the course is just a short distance west of Allegheny County's William D. Boyce Park.
